The Co-Op Model

The cooperative model creates a learning environment that inspires children and adults to discover, create, learn, and grow together. Our philosophy is based on the belief that parents play an integral role in their child’s educational experience. This direct involvement promotes confidence, increases a child’s self-esteem, encourages a love of learning, and nurtures a positive attitude regarding a child’s first educational experience.

As a cooperative preschool, we are a non-profit educational program owned and operated by parent members, administered by a parent board of directors, and licensed by the State of Michigan.

Partnering as a Cooperative Family

All families are asked to take part in a few important community activities that support our cooperative environment.

Parent Orientation is required before any parent or caregiver assists in the classroom and is held in early September. Families who enroll after the school year begins will meet with the teacher before classroom participation.

Each family also participates in one annual classroom cleaning day, helping maintain a safe, healthy, and welcoming learning space.

In addition, families are encouraged to attend the Spring General Membership Meeting, where board members participate as required, and all parents are invited to engage in school planning and community connection.

Assisting in the Classroom

One to three parents assist the teacher in the classroom each day, helping with setup, supervising art projects, gross motor activities, and play, as well as providing snacks and supporting clean up.

Parents typically assist three to four times during each eight-week session, with assistance dates requested in advance to accommodate family schedules.
